Skopje , the capital of the Republic of Macedonia has developed and maintained successful
After the devastating 1963 earthquake, Skopje became a city of international solidarity. Since that time it has established and maintained links and relations with over 50 cities throughout the world
Skopje is a member of the International Union of Local Authorities (IULA) and participates in several conferences in Europe and worldwide.
Skopje has signed the Declaration of the Euro-Mediterranean Conference ( Barcelona, 1995) and is a member of the permanent Conference of the Mayors of the Capitals of Southwest Europe ( Athens, 1995), having signed the Protocol for cooperation of the first conference.
As the administrative, cultural, economic and diplomatic center, the city of Skopje is actively engaged in international cooperation through activities in a wide range of areas: economy, culture, education, tourism, community development policy, sport etc.
These benefits of those activities are manifold: a large number of new business contacts, exhibitions, concerts, trade development, fairs, student exchanges, humanitarian aid etc.
The international cooperation of the city of Skopje is guided by the principles of the Macedonian foreign policy and further coordinated, as necessary, with governmental bodies and institutions, educational institutions and other organizations
In recent years the city of Skopje attempts to establish relations with other capitals in the world.
